Silver Medal for Novice LL
The Dodge Caravan Kids gave it their all in a hard fought battle in game 2 of the Novice LL Silver Championship. The Meteors started the game with high energy and a thirst to control the puck and they persevered throughout the game. Opening the scoring for Mitchell in the first period was Liam Brodhagen on assists from Brayden Glauser and Grayson Yost. South Bruce would answer with a goal of their own to leave the score tied at one at the end of the first period.
In the second period Mitchell was not able to score despite several golden opportunities. South Bruce would put two more goals in the net leaving the score 3-1 at the end of two periods.
Third period action was end to end as both teams battled hard for control of the game. South Bruce would score their fourth goal of the game, but the Meteors did not give up. With 5:20 on the clock Owen McKenzie would get the puck to Sam Huettlin who went end to end to score Mitchell's second goal in the game. With the score now at 4-2, Mitchell put strong pressure on South Bruce for the last moments of the game, but could not get the puck in the net despite a grand effort by all. Meteor's goalie Brennen VanderKuylen stood on his head sending shot after shot aside and keeping his team in the game right to the end.
Mitchell Meteors Novice LL team should be commended for their strong sportsmanship and effort throughout their playoff series and the entire season. You made your parents and fans very proud! Thanks to our dedicated coaches for their time and talents and for never letting a learning opportunity go by...our boys learned a lot and had a great year!
