Novice AE wins Hawks cup in nail biting shootout
The Mitchell Meteors Novice AE Dodge Caravan Kids came away with the win in the A final for the Novice AE division to take the Hawks Cup.  Fantastic play by the entire team kept fans on the edge of their seat throughout the tournament.

The team started out the tournament strong on Thursday against the Stratford Warriors, with a 2-0 win.  Goals scored by James McCarthy and Vincent Voros, with assists going to Jarrett Van Bakel and Xavier Lorentz on the first goal while McCarthy assisted the second. Andreas Harmer grabbed the big opening shutout win.

On Friday the team started out against Milverton falling short 2-1.  The loan unassisted goal was scored by Voros, and forward Lucas Roobroeck kept Mitchell close late in the third with well-played poke check to stop a Milverton break away. Unfortunately Mitchell was unable to capitalize to tie things up.

The team would go on to tie the game against BCH 2-2.  Lorentz and Van Bakel each scored for Mitchell. Josh French assisted on Lorentz’s goal and Jack Small from McCarthy assisted the second. Mitchell with fewer goals against would move on, from their points tie with BCH to play in the A final.

The final tournament game was a thriller with the team once again taking on Milverton.  In the first period Mitchell got on the board early with Caleb Templeman, assisted from Small, and Voros each scoring taking the lead 2-0. Milverton went on to score in the second and third period to tie things up. The game went on to a five minute, three on three, OT and then eventually a shootout with Van Bakel hitting the back of the net at the same time as Hayden Beuermann made an outstretched save against the Milverton shooter to snatch the win 3-2.

The team worked hard throughout the tournament with strong blue line support from Preston Porter, Brock Boville, Evan O’Rourke, and Daniel Ogilvie as they worked hard throughout the tournament to protect their own zone and move the puck forward to start the offense. Congratulations to the whole team on the strong showing and their continuous efforts throughout the tournament.
