Meteors don't Advance in Pink the Rink Tourney
The Mitchell Meteor Peewee team participated in the Pink on the RInk tournament in Exeter this past weekend in support of Breat Cancer research. The team sponsored by Sunlife-Paul VanGerwen played three great games of hockey.

Friday morning the Meteors faced off against the tough TCDHMA Rebels. It was a fast paced game. The Rebels scored in the first period, but the Metors tied it up in the second. Elysha Vorstenbosch recived a pass from Breann Schoonderwoerd who was in the corner and took a shot at the net. With the goalie on the other side of the net,Vorstenbosch was able to hit the puck off he goalies blocker, and put the puck over her shoulder and in. In the third period, there was a scramble in front of the Mitchell net and the puck ricoched off multiple skates, the post, and dribbled past the Mitchell goalie. Coach Richard Boyce said " It was the best game they've ever played." Marley Baillie and Kendra Earl were strong on their sticks and received the some key passess from the defense, setting up the forwards for opportunities in the TCDHMA end.
Later in the day, the second game played was Mitchell vs. Lucknow. The Metors were able to hold off Lucknow for three power plays throughout the game. Schoonderwoerd found an opportunity and was able to go end to end and get a shot off from the corner. Her shot bounced off the golies skate and found its way in, putting Mitchell up 1-0 early in the first period. Still in the first, Rachel Stephan found Schoonderwoerd open and she took a shot. Jordan Ford was able to get her stick on the rebound and shoot the puck at the middle of the net. The goalie was down opening up space for the puck to bulge the twine. As Ford says " It was a beauty." Before Mitchell was able to lengthen their lead, Lucknow was able to get a shot past Mitchell golie Julia Cairns, but it had little meaning. Later in the game, again Schoonderwoerd took a shot and Jordyn Elgie was able to get the rebound top corner, over the glove. The final score was 3-1. Breann Schoonderwoerd was chosen as player of the game by the officials. The final game the Meteors played had them facing off against the Ilderton Jets. The Jets claimed the lead less than two minutes in, from a bad bounce in the Mitchell end leaving the Jets on a 3 on 1 breakaway. Mitchell was able to tie it up early in the second. Sarah Skinner passed the puck out front to Lyric Huygen. With Skinner, Huygen and Elgie poking at the puck in frount of the net, Elgie was able to get it passed the goalie. Mitchell struggled with penalties and Maia Moore and Olivia Boyce worked hard clearing the puck out of their end. Cairns made a spectaculair save, but Ilderton kept poking at the puck, and eventually pushed it in. An Ilderton player took a great shot and scored high over the goalies blocker. Mitchell wasn't finished and during a power play closed the gap in scoring. Schoonderwoerd went for a skate and scored a goal on the short side down low. This brought the score to 3-2 for Ilderton. In the third period, Mitchell had 24 seconds of 5 on 3 hocky, however Ilderton tied the puck up for most of the time and the Meteors didn't get any scoring chances. Mitchell then had some penalty trouble and found themselves playing shorthanded with only three players on the ice. Defensive coach, Joe Schoonderwoerd, said "The girls were all over the puck," and kept lderton from scoring for almost one and a half minutes of 3 on 5 hockey. With  8 minutes on the clock, Ilderton sealed the deal, by scoring one more time, stretching their lead to 4-2, eliminating the Meteors chance to advance in the tournament. The finals saw TCDHMA against Ilderton. Referees selected Sarah Skinner as Player of the Game. Makayla Meinen is on the injured list.
