PEEWEE’S GO UNDEFEATED TO CLAIM WOAA LEAGUE TITLE
After sweeping Blyth / Brussels and Teeswater in four round robin games the Mitchell New Orleans Pizza peewees advanced to the WOAA Gregg Division League Championship in a best 2 out 3.

Game one saw the Meteor’s on the road in Mount Forest last Tuesday to face the Rams, an opponent they had not played all year. In the opening period the Rams held a slight advantage in shots and the period ended tied at zero. Early in the second the Rams finally got one past Meteors net minder Tanner Knechtel to take the lead. Within three minutes Quaid Austin converted a pass from Curtis Lockhart into the tying goal to even it at 1-1. Lockhart then set up Judd Walker for the go ahead goal before the middle frame ended sending the Meteors to the intermission up 2-1 and holding a slim advantage in shots 14-11.

With less than five minutes to go in the third Jacob McPhee scored on a power play to make it 3-1, assists coming from Jake Preszcator and Jacob Deck. That was all the Meteor’s needed to take game one in the best of three.

On Friday the Rams returned to Mitchell for game two. In a replay of game one the Rams held the first period advantage in shots only to be stymied by Knechtel to keep the score deadlocked at zero. In the second period the Rams would once again score first to take a 1-0 lead. Two minutes later McPhee and Deck set up Preszcator for the equalizer. In the third period it was all Meteors offensively as they out shot the Rams 11-2. The Mount Forest goaltender turned everything aside until a shot from Judd Walker found the back of the net with 3 seconds left to play in regulation to give the Meteors the victory and claim the WOAA Gregg Division Championship. Reid Ramseyer and McPhee drew assists on the final goal of the season.

The boys finished the season with an impressive run going through playoffs, tournaments & exhibition play with a record of 18-4-1. Thanks for the Memories!!
