Mitchell Novice Rep Boys Finish, an Impressive 6th Place, at Silver Stick!!
The boys traveled to Michigan Thursday to compete in the International Silver Stick Finals.  The boys had a strong showing at the tournament coming away with a 6th place overall finish.

The Mitchell Meteors began the tournament against the Chicago Huskies, Friday morning.  The Meteors were excited to get their first experience playing an American team.  Even though the rules of the game differed a little with no touch off sides and a lighter, bouncier puck, the boys adjusted well and dominated the entire game.  They skated hard and fast and made amazing plays.  Mitchell ended the game winning 6-1 in an incredible team effort!  The Huskies fans were impressed by the team and made many comments about the passing and how the defense handled the puck!  Great job boys!!!
Game #2 was later that day against the Ingersoll Express.  Although the team played a little flat, the defense did a great job feeding the forward lines the puck and keeping the shots on goalie, Charlie Wood, to a minimum. Although the Meteors lost this game 4-0, Ingersoll went on to be the #1 team!  The boys should be proud that they kept within reach of such a strong opponent.  Another great job boys!!
Game #3, played Saturday afternoon, was a do or die situation against the Penetang Flames.  A win would possibly take us to the semi-finals the following day.  Mitchell came out flying and scored the first goal just 30 seconds into the game.  It looked as though they might be able to run away with the game.  Unfortunately, the Flames had other plans and kicked it up a notch.  The scoring went back and forth and Mitchell found themselves with 2 minutes left in the third period tied at 2.  Coach Dietz pulled Goaltender Wood and got the 6th attacker out to try and take the upper hand and win the game.  After many exciting chances and scrambles in front of Penetang's net minder, the buzzer rang out shutting the door on Mitchell's hopes of moving on in the tournament.  A great team effort, great passing and defense were shown in this game but they just couldn't bury the puck.  The Meteor's headed into the tournament in a Wild Card spot and the boys proved that they deserved to be there right from the first puck drop.  We are all very proud of you. Thank you for such an amazing weekend!!
